i love all sorts of horror movies, but horror movies from the 80s just have something...special...maybe there's real creative value in the brazen, cringeless, first-thought-best-thought cocaine era of film.
maybe i'm heavily biased, because i'm the kind of person to hear the line "death by stereo!" and go "oh hell yeah."
either way, here are some of my favorites.

fright night (1985) is my favorite movie of all time.
it has it all: a fruit bat-inspired vampire in a[n admittedly subtext-only but it's absolutely there] gay relationship with his familiar, a vincent price-type character, a creepy little sidekick, giant boobs as a side-effect of the curse of vampirism, sparks on the soundtrack...come on!!!
